Living
in an Unfair World
By Aan Andrian
A year ago Doni still
remembers his father who died of cancer, Doni is a farmer's son who has to
think about how to continue his life. Now doni lives with his beloved mother
after the death of his father. Living in a very narrow bamboo hut with a ground
floor by candlelight that is lit every night. Being in the village of
Pagarkayu, there was no electricity at that time. Doni can only
read a book given by his friend who goes to school every night. Reading a book
accompanied by a yellow light from a candle and the whispering sound of a
mosquito is very disturbing to the ear.
That morning, Doni wanted to go to school, but with his condition without money, Doni could not continue his education. Every day Doni helps his mother earn a living by working in the fields belonging to skipper Aan. Seeing his mother who works hard every day to support the family, Doni feels sorry and chooses to help his mother work. Doni not only works in the fields, but he also sells newspapers with one of his friends, Asep. While selling newspapers, the two of them also sing in the streets to the accompaniment of Asep applause, to increase their income.
In the morning when Doni
and Asep were selling newspapers, they accidentally met one of their friends,
Ucup, the son of one of the teachers. Seeing Ucup wearing a tidy
school uniform, carrying a bag, and carrying a lunch box in his left hand. Doni
was jealous to see Ucup who went to school in neat clothes and had many
friends. After that Doni rushed home with a sad face and met his mother who was
getting ready to go to work. Then Doni said to his mother, "Mom, why can't
I go to school, why am I not like other children, If only my father was still
there, I would be able to go to school, Mom..." said Doni was very
emotional and crying to his mother. His mother was silent and could not say
anything after hearing her son's words, because replying to Doni's words would
only be in vain because Doni was still a small child who did not understand the
situation.
Then Asep came to see
Doni and asked him to sell newspapers around the terminal. Despite the
sun's scorching heat, they are still eager to earn a lot of money to continue their studies and reach their goals. After selling newspapers they
continued to sing. They work tirelessly looking for additional income to
realize their dreams.
Then, unexpectedly, a car came to the woman crossing the road, and the car wanted to
hit the woman. Then Doni immediately ran to save the mother by pushing the
mother's body. The mother was shocked and fell due to being pushed by Doni,
Then Mrs. Fitri said "Thank you, son, I didn't realize there was a speeding
car, thank you for saving mother". Then Doni replied, "You're welcome
ma'am, forgive me ma'am if I pushed you to fall".
"It's okay son,
because of that mother is safe," said Mrs. Fitri. Then Asep approached
Doni very worried about Doni. Mrs. Fitri wonders why two small children roam
the streets holding newspapers and carrying milk cans.
"Why don't you go to
school? Why are you wandering the streets?" Said Mrs. Fitri with a sad
face.
Doni and Asep also
answered, "We can't go to school because we don't have money, ma'am, so we
have to earn a living to be able to continue school".
Mrs. Fitri was also sad
to hear their words, plus saw a small child had to earn money, which they
should go to school. Unexpectedly, it turns out that Mrs. Fitri is a school
principal. "You want to go to school? If you want to go to school, I can
help you." They were both surprised to hear Mrs. Fitri's words. With
shocking expressions they answered "Seriously ma'am?, of course, we really
want to go to school" said Doni and Asep very happy.
"Mom is very
serious," said Mrs. Fitri with tears falling to the ground. Then they
hugged Mrs. Fitri while crying, "Thank you very much, Mrs. Fitri, finally
we can go to school". "Yes, you're welcome," said Mrs. Fitri.
Then they ran towards the
house to meet his mother. After Doni met his mother and explained what had
happened, his mother couldn't hold back her tears and was very happy that her
son was finally able to continue his education. Doni and Asep felt delighted
and couldn't believe it. In the end, they were both able to go back to school.
And Mrs. Eti feels grateful that Doni can finally go to school. Doni studied
very, very diligently so that he went to college and got a scholarship, finally
he was able to realize his dream.
